An afternoon with Rémy Gresser

A few weeks ago Palazzo San Luca opened its doors to the marvellous Rémy Gresser for a Grand Cru masterclass. Having first settled in the region of Alsace in the 1600s, the Gresser family has since grown to become a leading wine producer of the area, with seven appellations spanning nearly all Grand Cru vineyards, including Moenchberg, Kastelberg and Wiebelsberg. The wines are renowned for their mineral tastes that reflect Rémy Gresser’s studied use of biodynamic methods for the cultivation of the vineyards.

For a while now Rémy Gresser has been looking to further expand his market in the North of Italy, where the presence of Riesling producers is notably scarce. The event was therefore a fantastic opportunity to promote Domaine Gresser whose Grand Cru Rieslings are a predominant feature of Palazzo San Luca’s wine list.

Hosted in the newly refurbished Signature Apartment and boasting a spectacular view over Venice’s canals and Saint Mark’s Campanile, the masterclass gathered some of the most renowned restaurateurs of Venice, most of whom are currently gearing up to introduce new wines in their restaurants as the season shifts. Seeing as fish is such a key component of Venetian cuisine, the promotion of the white Riesling in this location could not have been a more perfect choice. 

Rémy Gresser transported his audience up into the hills of Adlau, home to his Pinot, Gewürztraminer, Muscat, but most famously and in the greatest abundance, to his Rieslings. His deep appreciation and care for the terrains that for years have been producing such distinctive flavours shined through in his presentation of the fifteen different wines from his domain. Cheeses and cold cuts accompanied the mystical wine flavours.

Overall, a wonderful experience for everyone and also a chance for Palazzo San Luca to showcase the great quality of the wine that is on offer to guests!
